AV Fistula Surgery Cost in Singapore
What determines the quote for creating a dialysis access (an arteriovenous fistula or graft), the Ministry of Health fee benchmarks for the surgeon's fee, and how to get a written estimate.
Short answer: the cost of creating a dialysis access depends on whether a fistula or a graft suits your arteries and veins, the access site, the anaesthesia and the hospital. We do not publish a price list, because the right plan and the right hospital for you set the cost. Once your plan is clear, the clinic team gives you a written estimate and helps you check your cover. The Ministry of Health's fee benchmarks for the surgeon's fee are listed below for reference.
What determines your quote?
| Factor | How it affects the cost |
|---|---|
| Vessel mapping | Examination and, when appropriate, ultrasound vessel mapping assess arteries and veins for access planning. Mapping supports a decision; it cannot guarantee that an access will mature or remain open. |
| Type of access | An arteriovenous fistula joins an artery to a vein. A graft uses a manufactured tube to connect an artery and vein. Some grafts can be used sooner than fistulas, but timing depends on the device and healing. |
| Access site and anaesthesia | Previous access procedures, catheters, pacemakers, hand symptoms and heart problems may affect the choice of site. Ask about the proposed access site and anaesthesia at your consultation. |
| Further procedures | Some fistulas develop slowly, need an additional procedure or never become usable. Grafts can develop infection, narrowing and clotting, so they also need careful use and follow-up. |
The dialysis access creation guide explains how the access is chosen within your kidney-care plan, and dialysis access problems covers what happens if an access narrows or clots.
MOH fee benchmarks for surgeon fees: dialysis access creation
Singapore's Ministry of Health publishes fee benchmarks: recommended ranges for the surgeon's fee in the private sector. They cover the surgeon's fee only, not the hospital, anaesthetist, graft or other materials. Source: Ministry of Health, Hospital Bills and Fee Benchmarks (moh.gov.sg), figures checked on moh.gov.sg on 2 November 2026.
| Procedure (MOH description and code) | MOH surgeon-fee benchmark, inclusive of GST |
|---|---|
| Artery, various lesions, arteriovenous fistula creation (SD821A) | S$2,071 to S$4,251 |
| Arteriovenous fistula, synthetic graft (SD709A) | S$7,957 to S$12,208 |
These are MOH's recommended ranges for routine cases in private hospitals, inclusive of GST, and are not Andrew Choong Vascular Surgery's fees.
Your written estimate states the procedure code and each fee that applies to your plan.
Insurance
Our fees are governed by the insurance panels and schemes we participate in, and we comply with every panel's fee guidelines. The clinic team helps you check panel eligibility and any pre-authorisation your insurer requires. Please confirm eligibility with your insurer and our clinic before treatment. See insurance and payment.
How do I get a written estimate?
- Book a consultation. Tell the team about previous arm, chest and neck procedures and bring existing scan reports.
- Dr Choong examines your arms and, when appropriate, maps the vessels with ultrasound, then explains which access he recommends and why.
- Once your plan is clear, the clinic team gives you a written estimate. Ask what it includes: surgeon and anaesthetist fees, hospital charges, devices, tests and follow-up.
Common questions
Is a graft more expensive than a fistula?
The MOH benchmark for the surgeon's fee is higher for a synthetic graft than for fistula creation, and a graft also involves the cost of the manufactured tube. Which access suits you depends on your arteries and veins, not on cost alone.
Are the MOH benchmarks the clinic's fees?
No. They are the Ministry of Health's recommended ranges for the surgeon's fee in routine private-sector cases. They do not include hospital, anaesthetist or material charges.
My fistula has stopped working. Should I wait for an estimate?
No. A disappearing thrill needs urgent contact with the dialysis team. Urgent access problems are seen the same day. See dialysis access problems.
