10 Years of Vascular Care in Singapore: A Personal Reflection
Dr Andrew Choong reflects on ten years of vascular care in Singapore, from National University Hospital to private practice, and thanks patients, colleagues and friends.
Today marks my tenth work anniversary in Singapore. From my early years at the National University Hospital to the last few years in private practice, it has been an honour to care for this community.
In the accompanying video, my message is simple: thank you to my colleagues, friends and every patient who has trusted me with their care. An anniversary is a chance to pause and recognise the people who have made the journey meaningful.
Looking back on a decade in Singapore
My work in Singapore began in 2015 at the National University Hospital. Working alongside colleagues in vascular, endovascular and aortic surgery helped shape my clinical practice and my commitment to care informed by evidence and each patient’s circumstances.
The decade has also included academic and personal milestones. I completed my PhD at the University of Warwick in 2020, and moved into private practice in 2023. In 2025, I served as an examiner for the European Board of Vascular Surgery. Each chapter has brought opportunities to learn, teach and contribute to the specialty.
These milestones matter to me, but they sit within something more important: the responsibility of caring for people who need help with their arteries or veins.
What does vascular care mean to me?
Vascular conditions can affect daily comfort, mobility and long-term health. Understanding a diagnosis and discussing the options are essential parts of care, alongside any investigation or treatment.
The scope of the specialty includes peripheral arterial disease, venous conditions and aortic disease. Different conditions call for different decisions, and the starting point is understanding the individual person.
