Today, the 29th of October, is World Stroke Day. This is stroke prevention surgery in 60 seconds. Did you know that one in four people over the age of 25 will have a stroke in their lifetime? Vascular surgeons can prevent strokes.
Most strokes happen when a blood clot blocks an artery supplying the brain, often from a narrowing in the carotid artery in the neck. As vascular surgeons, we can remove or treat that blockage before a stroke even happens, through procedures like a carotid endarterectomy or stenting. But recognising the warning signs and symptoms early still matters.
